An open reply to an email I received

Last week I got the following email via the contact form on my website:

“All this advice, advice, advice!

Why doesn’t anyone EVER acknowledge the limitations put upon us by those who control the narrative?

Those who make the laws and decide our options?

It’s near to impossible to create the life you want when society decides it for you and expects you to toe the line?

I’m all for making my dreams come true… if only “they” would let me.

But, they won’t.

It has left me in long term stasis….

The rules of the game are set and there’s no deviation allowed.

Frustrates the h*** out of me!

There’s one your coaching, advice, articles or opinions (or anyone elses) can’t fix.

Good on you. Thanks for reading. 🙏”

I tried to send the reply below but the reply bounced.

I thought I’d post it up here as an open response as it will actually be relevant for many people…

“Hi A,

I can really feel the frustration coming through your message.

While there’s a lot that isn’t within our control there’s also plenty that is – it’s fully within your control how you choose your reaction to a situation and where you choose to live ie how restrictive an environment you choose to live in.

I can choose to be massively pissed off by the fucking mess the world is in or I can choose to focus on all the good that exists – there’s plenty around if you look for it ☺️”

While it’s true that there’s plenty about the world that affects us that we can’t control, we CAN choose to control our thoughts and feelings around it.

What’s the point in continuing to allow these things to piss you off if you can’t do anything about it?

If it’s something that you can take action on then use your emotions to drive and motivate you into somehow making some change by speaking out and advocating for yourself and your community.

But if all you’re doing is getting upset, talking about how upset you are and then doing nothing to change anything then isn’t the only person you’re affecting in a negative way, yourself?

How will that make your life any better?

Choose instead to focus on what you can control as well as all you have to be grateful for.

That’s my reflection for the day. ☺️
