I’m reading a book called The Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel at the moment and love his quote:
“The most important part of every plan is planning on your plan not going to plan.”
This quote got me thinking about a client I once had while working as a Probation Officer in London. 🧐
Picture this: a guy with a violent past, anger issues, and anxiety so intense that he needed to plan his day down to the minute.
One day, I threw him a curveball: 🥎
What if you just hopped on a train with no destination, just to have a fun day? 🚆
You’d think I asked him to jump off a cliff!
He started pacing like a caged lion, completely freaked out by the idea of letting go. 🦁
After a few sessions of coaching he started to be more open to the idea of allowing more flexibility into his life.
He realised that his need for control was holding him back.
Instead of viewing uncertainty as a monster under the bed, he began to see it as a chance to explore and enjoy life. 🫶🏻
Imagine if he’d figured this out sooner!
How different would his life have been if he’d known that letting go could lead to more joy and less chaos?
So, here’s the deal: life is messy, and plans often go sideways. 🥺
Instead of stressing over every little detail, let’s embrace the chaos!
Next time you feel the urge to micromanage your day, take a deep breath and remember: sometimes the best adventures come from the unexpected. 🤩
After all, it’s not just about the plans we make; it’s about the wild ride we take when those plans go off the rails!
So if you find that your plan just isn’t going to plan, set some time aside to regroup, ground, get your nervous system to calm the fuck down and ask:
“What could be the good in this?”
Release the resistance, reset, and sleep on it. 💤
As you’re falling asleep, ask to be shown your next steps in your dreams.
Maybe you’ll find you have more clarity when you wake up…
