A tumour is to cancer what thoughts are to depression

Crazy when you think of it that way, but it’s true.

It’s the negative thoughts that we choose to think that easily and quickly spiral us downhill.

Yes, I said CHOOSE to think.

When you’re stuck in a negative thought spiral it can be easy to think that we have no control over our thoughts – but that just isn’t true.

It’s not necessarily easy to change your thinking, it doesn’t happen overnight, but it’s worth it.

It takes discipline, commitment and consistently keeping yourself in check to reprogram your thought patterns, but it WILL change your life when you do.

How is your thinking right now? Are you full of happy thoughts, or toxic negative ones?

When I was first asked to think about what I was thinking, I was about 23 and I was really surprised at what I found.

I’d always considered myself a happy, optimistic person (which I am), so I was quite surprised at some of the negative commentary that popped into my head.

Nothing major, but there all the same.

Fast forward a few years to when I was knee deep in depression, and boy was my thinking the worst it’s ever been.

It felt like it took SO much energy to try and override all the awful, critical, hateful things I was telling myself on an endless loop.

And so I gave in to it for a while.

But when I decided to make a change – which had always been within my control – I did things differently.

I still didn’t have the energy at first to change my thinking, so instead I lay in the sunshine and listened to positive affirmations by Louise L Hay relentlessly.

After a couple of days of doing this (and literally that’s all I did other than sleep), I noticed I was feeling a bit better.

And then I could read a book (something my brain hadn’t been able to do for a while since it felt like it melted when depression hit).

And then I could have a conversation and laugh without faking it.

And then I had better days, better chats, better conversations where I was reminded that life is actually pretty good after all.

And then I had ammunition to be able to change my thoughts, as well as the energy to do it.

Change your thoughts and change your life – stop feeding the cancer.

If you’re stuck in the loop of negative thinking and don’t think you can change it alone, drop me a message and let’s chat.
