5 quick and easy things to do to snap yourself out of a funk

It doesn’t matter who you are or how positive and optimistic you are, we all have those times when we get in a bit of a funk. Here are some of my go-to strategies when I’m feeling a bit off that you might like to try out next time you need to snap yourself out of a hole.

EFT

Emotional freedom technique, also known as tapping, is an amazing tool for getting yourself out of a sh*tty headspace. You basically just tap on various acupressure points around the face and body, while repeating statements that you believe to be true. I use EFT all the time, both for moving away from the negative, as well as moving towards the things I want more of.

Ask curious questions

Often when we are in a funk we’re festering on negative “stinking thinking.” We get quite specific and focused with our negative thoughts when we are faced with something we consider more of a problem then a challenge to overcome.

I like to flip this style of thinking to a more positive method of self-talk – asking curious questions like “I wonder how this will all work itself out? I wonder what the next best step is for me to take? How could I see the positives in this situation?”

By speaking to yourself in this way you open up your brain to stay focused on the answers to these questions instead of closing yourself off with thoughts like “things always go wrong for me” or “nothing will ever change.”

Go for a walk/exercise outside

Spending time in nature and doing some exercise are two of the quickest sure-fire ways to break your state and get the happy chemicals flooding around your mind and body. Combine exercise and nature for a double whammy – I love going for a walk at the beach when I’m feeling rubbish.

Write out your thoughts

There’s something very cathartic about putting pen to paper and doing a brain dump of all those crappy thoughts flying through your head. Get all that junk onto paper and out of your system, then rip it up or burn it.

Soothe yourself

When we’re in a funk and full of negative thoughts it can really be hard to make the effort to snap ourselves out of it. If you can’t be bothered to try out any of the above then chuck on some easy listening instead and leave it playing in the background. I love to play soothing subliminal music from YouTube or listening to Abraham Hicks. Try out some of these links and see what works for you. Note – these will also work if you have the volume down as low as possible (I put mine on one bar above zero) if you’re somewhere you can’t have the volume up. It will work even if you can’t hear it as your energy field still absorbs it 🙂
