Ladies: We need to talk about Perimenopause

Hey you amazing ladies 🤩

Not sure about you, but I seem to be hearing a lot about perimenopause at the moment and it’s totally relevant to me.

I actually don’t remember hearing anything about perimenopause prior to about a year ago, and up until then was pretty in the dark about it.

I knew about menopause, but not what came before it.

So many of us have been messing with our hormones since we were young with various forms of contraception.

A lot of us have no idea about our cycles or can predict/track them.

Anyway, a few months ago I started getting joint pain in ALL of my joints and I thought WTF.. just when I felt like I was getting on top of the chronic pain I’d been dealing with for the last 15 years I got hit with MORE. 🤕

When I spoke to a friend who’s 10 years older than me she described going through the same thing, and said when she went through perimenopause (which can be a thing for 10-15 years before you even hit menopause) she tried to go down the natural route and totally regrets it as now all her tendons and ligaments aren’t feeling good at all, and she’s dealing with a tonne of chronic pain.

Soooo I decided to get my hormones checked via my GP, and he said they were all normal.

But when I started looking into the symptoms of perimenopause (there’s over 100!) I realised I was having LOADS of them.

For the previous 18 months. 🧐

So I thought fuck this, women are often gaslit by the medical system when they KNOW there’s something up with their body.

So I did some research and found The Australian Menopause Centre based in New South Wales, and had a bulk billed phone call with them where they took me very seriously and got me started on HRT.

By the way, I’m not sponsored by them and get no kick-back, my recommendation is purely based on personal experience.

They send me for blood tests every 6 weeks to check my hormones, and even if they’re in so called “normal” range, they listen to my symptoms and ME. Phew. 🥰

They also get you booked in for regular sessions with a naturopath and nutritionist which is awesome, so you can go through the supplements you’re taking and they can make their recommendations based on your blood test results.

Like I said, this is a purely personal recommendation only and you have to do what’s right for you – but what I’ve always learned is to go to the experts in their field rather than a master of none – so at least find a GP who specialises in perimenopause/menopause, read books and listen to podcasts to educate yourself.

Here’s who I go through, they have a 5 minute self-assessment on their website you can take:

Whoever you speak to and whichever route you decide to take, just make sure they’re the experts in this field rather than a standard GP.

Welcome to message me if you have any questions about the process. 😘

Catcha on the flip side,
