9 Top Tips To Help You Cleanse After Christmas

Are you feeling a bit bleurgh after over-indulging during the festive season?

Me toooooo!!

Let’s get started with cleansing those toxins out with my top tips for cleansing out Christmas and New Year.

1. Drink enough water

Most people don’t drink nearly enough water. Did you know we each lose on average per day 1.5 litres of water in bodily processes alone? That means you need to replace that as a very minimum – and no, tea and coffee doesn’t count because caffeine is a diuretic, meaning they make you lose more water.

Aim for at least 2 litres per day – more if you can. I drink about 4 litres a day and I really feel it if I don’t. Even 1% dehydration can really affect your focus and concentration. Also try adding the juice of half a lemon to your morning water for extra cleansing effects (you can also use a few drops of lemon essential oil instead but ensure your oil is able to be taken orally – I use DoTerra oils).

I recently got an amazing water filter/ioniser and it’s having a massively positive effect on my energy levels! The purity of the water you drink has a huge impact on you so get in touch if you want to know more about the best water you can get.

2. Reduce your coffee intake and switch to green tea

Just one cup of coffee creates so much acidity in your body that it takes 8 glasses of water to neutralise it! Dunno about you but I find that crazy.

While green tea also contains caffeine, it’s a much more natural form of caffeine to that found in coffee (which is actually a dead type of caffeine and classed as a stimulant drug).

Most of us reach for a cup of coffee to wake us up, but a lot of the time we are tired because we are dehydrated, so go back to point 1. – drink enough water! Try drinking water or green tea the next time you feel tired.

3. Do a cleanse/detox

I’ve never been an advocate of diets as I just don’t believe you can maintain the results and I don’t think it’s healthy to cut out food groups.

But I do believe strongly in regular cleansing/detoxing. Let’s face it, even if you eat really healthily then you still can’t avoid the pollution in our air, water and soil. We all need to cleanse regularly to keep out health and energy at its best.

I do intermittent fasting once a week and a 30 day cleanse around every 6 months – after Christmas to get rid of all that junk I’ve put in my body, and again in July coming out of winter where I’ve usually stuffed myself with carbs!

I’ve been cleanse coaching my clients for the last 4 years with amazing results – an average of 5kg weight loss on a 30 day program, improved sleep and energy levels, loss of toxic fat from the body and much much more.

I have a few people cleansing with me through January – want to join us? Get in touch. For more info check out this page.

4. Try oil pulling

Oil pulling is an ancient ayurvedic tradition where you swish oil around in your mouth to pull out any toxins. You can check out more info here.

5. Do daily body brushing

Dry skin brushing before you have your shower in the morning is amazing for stimulating the lymphatic system, increasing circulation, exfoliation, stress relief and improving kidney and liver function. Check out more on the benefits here including how to do it.

6. Have an epsom salts bath

Epsom salts are amazing at replenishing lost magnesium in your body. I have a weekly salt bath with half a kilo of epsom salts, half a cup of bicarb soda and 10 drops of lavender oil. Give it a go this week, you’ll feel amazing!

7. Move your body every day

Whether you’re into high intensity training or more gentle exercise like yoga and stretching, just make sure you spend some time each day moving your body in some way.

8. Cut out/cut down on booze

Your body will thank you for it!

9. Cut down on processed foods

Eat more fresh veggies and fruit along with healthy fats and protein.

Do you have any favourite detox tips you want to share? I’d love to hear them.
